Named one of Helen Shaw’s ‘10 Most Mind-Altering Theater Moments of 2026’ in the NYT Critics’ Notebook:

I used to believe that true, horror-level suspense was impossible onstage. I had never felt, in a theater, that something scary was creeping up behind me. At least, that is, not until I saw “Time Passes (for Ellen Brody)” at a Sunset Park warehouse space during last winter’s Exponential Festival. From the start of the Goat Exchange’s bizarre literary riff on Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws,” a pile of gray fabric lay slumped in the center of the room. When the actress Chloe Claudel walked downstage, a fan began to whine, and the fabric pile very, very slowly inflated into a 12-foot-long dirigible shark. Over the course of what might have been 10 minutes, Claudel ignored the life-size Great White as it swelled behind her. While I watched its painted mouth take shape, my heart clutched. There it is, I thought. I’m feeling dread.
